Visible to one AI, invisible to another

๐Ÿ”€ ChatGPT and Google AI Mode run on two different commerce protocols. Being integrated with one doesn't cover the other, and more!

Hello! You've arrived at What Actually Works ๐Ÿค“

We break down the real strategies, decisions, and plays that actually move the needle in your marketing, and here it for today.

๐Ÿ”€ You might be visible to ChatGPT and invisible to Google AI Mode

AI shopping discovery isn't running on one protocol. OpenAI's Agentic Commerce Protocol governs how products surface inside ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot. Google and Shopify's Universal Commerce Protocol governs discovery inside Google AI Mode.

The two are designed to be complementary, not interchangeable, which means integrating with one doesn't make a store visible on the other. A retailer confident in its AI shopping presence because it shows up in ChatGPT may be running dark inside Google AI Mode, or the reverse, without any single dashboard showing that gap.

This is a different failure than a content or catalog problem. A store can have flawless product data and still be structurally absent from half the AI shopping surface, simply because nobody checked which protocol the integration actually covers. The fix isn't better content. It's knowing which door is open and which one was never connected.

Test your actual presence on each surface separately

Most teams check AI shopping visibility by asking one assistant a question and treating the answer as representative of "AI search" broadly. That conflates two systems with different data requirements into one pass-or-fail check.

Run the same core product query through ChatGPT and through Google AI Mode separately, and record whether your products actually surface in each, not just whether the brand gets a general mention. A store showing up cleanly in one and not appearing in the other has a protocol gap, not a content gap, and the two require different fixes.

Confirm which protocol your current integration actually satisfies

A commerce platform, agency, or plugin managing your feed may have built for one protocol without ever mentioning the other exists, since most implementation conversations happen around whichever system a vendor specializes in.

Ask directly, in writing: does the current setup satisfy ACP, UCP, or both. If the answer is unclear or the person doesn't recognize the terms, that's the actual gap, not a technical limitation, just a question nobody asked yet.

Treat both protocols as live requirements, not a future roadmap item

Building for one protocol and planning to add the other "eventually" concedes half the current AI shopping surface for however long eventually takes, on a channel that's growing every month it's ignored.

Continuously checking every title, spec, image, and price against your source of truth, across the surfaces that actually matter rather than just the one already integrated, is what Zenyt's AI shopper agents are built to do.

New York & Company found over 500 issues before BFCM worth an estimated $100K to $300K in potential revenue this way. You can get your free store analysis and find out which surface you've actually been missing.

Being invisible to half of AI shopping doesn't look like an error. It looks like normal, quiet underperformance nobody can quite explain.

How High-Growth Marketing Teams Secure More Resources

75.4% of marketing teams face higher pipeline or revenue targets, yet only 43% received a budget increase. If your team is expected to close that gap, you need a stronger operating playbook.

On September 17, Krithika Shankarraman, the first marketing hire at Stripe and OpenAI, joins AirOps CMO Christy Roach to unpack findings from 300+ marketing leaders.

Youโ€™ll learn how to:

  • Strengthen budget and headcount requests by tying investment to business growth
  • Push back when expectations exceed resources while protecting work that moves pipeline
  • Design a smaller, senior team with clearer ownership and greater leverage

Krithika built both marketing functions from the ground up. Christy has held leadership roles at AssemblyAI, Airtable, Asana, and Gusto

Youโ€™ll leave knowing where to invest and how to make a stronger case for the people and budget needed to hit your targets.
